Where do you tend to get your best ideas? For Charlie, his big idea of starting his own food business came to him when he was doing some travelling in a camper van! One hot night when it was too warm to sleep and reflecting on his experiences of how local cooks in China, India and other parts of the Far East prepared dishes with only the freshest ingredients he decided there was a gap in the UK market for delicious fresh meals.
On his return to the UK, Charlie quickly put his idea into action and in 1996 started the business, calling it simply “Charlie Bigham’s”. Initially the business was literally Charlie and one chef and we sold three dishes carefully hand made from fresh ingredients but in a convenient, ready-to-cook format. Since then, the business has grown really strongly with our brand growing to £60m RSV, and we are targeting strong growth over the next 3 years.
We now have 39 beautiful dishes in the range which are stocked in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Ocado, Budgen’s and Booths. All of our dishes are made fresh every day at our production kitchens which are based in Park Royal, West London and Dulcote, near Wells in Somerset.
Charlie Bigham’s are looking for 2 people to join their marketing team. Initial focus for the roles will either be category marketing or brand activation with longer term opportunities to experience broader marketing roles, or develop expertise in a specialist area.
With a category focus you’ll be supporting the marketing and commercial teams with strategic and day to day analysis that will contribute to the ongoing category strategy and customer presentations. Your insights will directly influence where and how our food is sold, identifying new opportunities and contributing to the innovation strategy.
Junior Brand Manager
In this role you will start your Bigham’s journey within brand activation where you’ll be involved in creating and managing campaigns to drive awareness and trial. You’ll work with our agencies to deliver a communication strategy across digital, social and print media.
In both roles you’ll be working alongside a Marketing Director with a strong track record in brand building and a passion for seeing people grow.
We are looking for degree educated (marketing related) candidates who have achieved a minimum of a 2:2 within the last three years. It would be advantageous, but not essential if you have had experience either during an internship or industrial placement. Academic record is part of the basics for this role, what will set you apart is your drive for results, passion for business and desire to grow with your role. We’re looking for people that are positive and personable and who loves being part of a great team. You’ll also need to demonstrate a proactive approach and the ability to set and manage priorities.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
At Bigham’s we know how much value great people will bring to our organisation. Starting salary will be £25,000 – £30,000 depending on experience.
