We are a well established family owned company providing specialist equipment for the Pharmaceutical and allied industries. The position will span the activities of Terriva Ltd which trades as Pharmatech, Drums Systems and Connections Systems

The present holder of the position is emigrating. This position is a key team member of the company.

The company sells its product primarily to the pharmaceutical industry which has high standards of technical competence and ethical operation. The industry is highly regulated by national and international authorities and as a consequence suppliers to it must meet and play their part in maintaining these high standards at all levels of their operation.

Reports to:

Managing Director

Responsibility overview:

To operate the company, develops sales and improve profitability. Maintain and develop the company’s image.


Sales and Marketing

To set goals for growth by developing a marketing strategy and control its implementation and periodic review.

To ensure that there is an adequate team to generate and follow up sales leads, process incoming orders, monitor progress and fulfilment of the orders and be responsible for accurate invoicing of the orders.

To develop tools for monitoring progress and performance

Design. (mechanical & Electrical/controls)

To ensure that:

  • There is an adequate resource for meeting the design requirements of the standard products
  • That a stream of new products is being developed to meet the marketing plans.
  • That technical standards are being reviewed and adopted where required
  • Develop and operate a cost reduction programme.

To ensure that:

  • There are sufficient resources in terms of labour, equipment and space
  • Delivery dates are met and on cost.
  • Staff are adequately trained
  • The production adept is operated in a safe manner.
  • Equipment and facilities are adequately maintained.
  • Documented systems are available at all stages of the production process.

To ensure that:

  • All staff are regularly assessed and that there are adequate personnel to meet the company’s needs
  • Staff are adequately trained
  • The health and safety policy of the company is maintained and regularly reviewed
  • Staff are properly protected by adoption of safe working practices and the provision of any necessary resources.
  • All legal requirements of employment are respected Legislative standards of employment are implemented
  • All staff will report to the General Manager except for The MD’s PA and the book-keeper.

The General manager will be responsible for the successful financial operation of the company in conjunction with the Managing Director.

This will involve ensuring that:

  • Costs are reduced wherever possible without affecting quality.
  • Profitability is maintained
  • Invoices are issued in a timely manner and proceeds are collected on time
  • Financial risks are minimised
  • Insurance cover is in place for all aspects of the company operation.
Operating Standards

The company is ISO9001 registered and the operation of the entire company is based on this system. The company must in all it’s activities meet the national and international for the supply of equipment to the appropriate standard.

The general manager will be required to report regularly to the MD on all aspects of the business and write reports as required.

Personal Attributes:

The position entails liaison with staff, customers, suppliers, the authorities at all levels including face to face meetings and hence the person must be clear-thinking, articulate and capable of presenting a good image.

First and foremost the person must have a critical and enquiring mind to allow them to understand the marketing and sales process, the production process and the installation and maintenance requirements of the product.

They must be familiar with engineering principles and requirements of prototype engineering and small batch run production processes.

They must be financially aware and able to understand and implement cost standards and working to reduce costs without affecting quality.

They must:

  • Have an excellent command of English and good grammar.
  • Be well presented
  • Be able to write clearly and concisely.
  • Have a good all round grasp of engineering and associated technical matters
  • Be analytical, methodical and meticulous.
  • Be decisive
  • Be aware of employment legislation requirements
  • Have good personal communication skills
  • Be financially aware and understand financial reports
  • Be able to read engineering and electrical line drawings
  • Understand basic principles of control systems.
  • Be able to understand and communicate engineering principles of design
  • Be computer literate and able to work with the MS Office range of products and understand basic principles of 3D drawing systems

Personal Profile:

Graduate level or higher with the following skills:

  • Excellent communicator
  • Good leadership skills
  • Demonstrable experience in planning & budgeting
  • Demonstrable analytical skills
  • Knowledgeable of the complete range of business processes.
  • Aptitude for problem review and solving
  • Proven experience as general manager or similar position

Type of position

The position will be a permanent position.

Hours of work

Nominal 8:30 to 17:00 with 30 min lunch break but as necessary to fulfil the job

Salary and Benefits

Pension: Contributory pension scheme.
Holidays: Statutory holidays plus annual entitlement of 4 weeks rising to 5 weeks based on length of service
Insurance Cover. Death in Service benefit of 4 x annual salary.
Salary: To be agreed for suitable candidate.
